Years ago I wrote a piece about the MCG when I first started this site.
Then I tried to write a funnier piece for cricinfo.
They didn’t think it was funny, but thought I should write a serious one.
So I just used the old one with some tweakage.

I am curioius, what do they cover the pitch with for AFL games?
AY, they are drop in pitches, they scoop em out at the end of the season.
Wow! So its possible for pitches to be created in Perth and relaid for use in Kotla? Will such a pitch have WACA’s character or Kotla’s? Bit of both I guess?
Ay, Yes, and no. The shipping costs alone would scare anyone off, plus in Melbourne and Sydney, it is grown down the road and brought in on one day, it might take a bit longer if you are flying it in.
