He made two hundreds in his second test.

In his fifth test he was worked out with the short ball that didn’t get him out.

He was dropped because he was being bullied.

Then he was ignored when Australia came home.

He made very little runs early in the season.

At the moment two former test openers have made more than him, and so did 11 other shield cricketers (including smooth eddie).

His only first class century for the year came against an attack being lead by Andrew McDonald and according to cricinfo he gave three chances.

Now he is back.

Why?

If he had gone back to shield cricket and lit it up, I’d understand, but he has just been ok.

I’m not sure making runs against a Victorian attack with its top 5 quick bowlers injured really counts.

And no one has pimped Phil Hughes like I have.

I’m pretty much his biggest fan, other than, no, it is me.

Remember the days when Ponting was injured or rested and Brad Hodge came in.

That was a simpler time.

There is more than a passing reference to P Hughes in this book.

Hmmm, very strange how the selectors mins work when Cowan or Klingon (to his wicket) or Shaun Marsh or Mitch Marsh or John Davison all have more heroic and laudable recent feats… or Mark Cosgrove, or Phil Jaques, or the dude who is very forgettable made a big one day ton recently against the south aussies… maybe they are on a budget- worries about adding to the pool of centrally contracted players

Quite stupid to pick an opener to replace a no.3…they could’ve gone with Klinger or Shaun Marsh….anywayz, Aamer & Gul will bounce Hughes out, so no worries, JRod!

BTW, shame on you for blatantly marketing your book at every possible opportunity. Looks like it’ll get to the point where Ravi Shastri shouts ‘That a Jesus Freddie maximum’! :P

Spreaking of the book, is it available in OZ yet?

Who gives at toss as to why. You must be overjoyed he is back. They need to bring in Warner to partner him and drop North and Hussey. Bring in Bracken to replace the Victorian.

Matt, it’s not strange at all. It’s the Oz selectors, the really strange thing would be if they did something straightforward.

Hussey used to open as well. The five-year plan is to have openers batting 3/4/5 and have middle-order batsmen opening.

They are teaching Ben Hilfenhaus to bowl leg-spin as I type.

But they are doing something sensible, they have arranged MJ to have flash cards to carry around with him with pictures of the stumps on them. He can practise seeing what they look like anywhere that way. On modelling shoots, whilst texting his mum, etc, etc…

Maybe they’re just like the England selectors. They don’t pick on form, you know. And we won the Ashes, and so must be right.

@CricketTragic: “BTW, shame on you for blatantly marketing your book at every possible opportunity”.

You can take out the word “possible” and it would still be correct. And closer to the truth.

    JRod, stop this. Now.

You’ld think that, wouldnt you? He made me pay for my copy, and all this after i bought him a pint poured by Mike Gatting

  13. jrod  •  Dec 23, 2009 @12:34

If it was poured by Tuffers it might have been enough.

  14. AndyinBrum  •  Dec 23, 2009 @12:49

I think Tuffers was too busy drinking the pints to ever get round to serving anyone.
