Sure the Karthik sympathisers might try and say, the ball was on his pads, all he did was try and get bat on it, why didn’t Sachin really go for his hundred, and why didn’t Sachin run a two the last ball he faced, but these people are low filthy scum that don’t deserve to live in a world with free pornography available for all.

Infact Sachin had umpteenth chances to score century. if karthik play out last over and sachin keep taking singles india would have lost the game. hahaha.
If anyone want to blame , blame sachin for his inability to take risk and hit 4s.

Leave Gavaskar & Shastri. Sachin didn’t seem to take it too seriously. After the boundary was hit, he shook hands with the umpire standing next to him, couple of sri lankan player & then went straight to Karthik with a genuine ear-to-ear smile (at least I didn’t find it artificial).
He seems to be on a different trip these days. Lot has been spoken about how he never ‘finishes’ the game. Off late he’s been trying to do that.

). Ok, back to my claim on SL’s disgusting tactics. This game reminded me of yet another similar incident back in 2001/02 when Vaas purposefully denied Ganguly a century in the second Test at Kandy, with India chasing in fourth innings!! (Tests->Away->Successful chase->4th innings->India->100!) With Sourav on 98, the SOB sent one down the leg just like Malinga did yday and robbed poor ole dada of a deserving century! How I hate their negative tactics!!

Big fan of JROD. Never left a comment before. Was watching the match in Doordarshan. Karthik was trying to get Sachin to his hundred and in trying to defend, there was an lbw appeal. Post that delivery,you can hear Sachin telling Karthik, “Its ok. Play normally”.
Next ball he came down the wicket and hit it for a six. Dont think it affected Sachin in anyway. All bullshit media hype. He has got out in the 90s 17 times before.. One more does not matter anymore.

@ Sunny: I dont think a single freeze frame can capture that whole moment. Sachin seemed alright with it. In fact, as someone else mentioned, he had a genuine ear to ear smile on his face. Also, I feel that, if he really wanted his century so bad, with the match situation as it was, he’d have asked Dinesh to slow down and Dinesh would have happily obliged. It’s hard to imagine an Indian intentionally denying Sachin a century. There simply is nothing to be gained by that except the ire of Sachin fanatics, of whom there are many! And also, unlike in tests, where Ponting is hot on his heels, Sachin’s fans seem pretty content with his ODI record. So, I feel it’s a non-issue really.

I speak for a generation of cricket lovers in India who have no memories of cricket before Tendulkar. Even Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, et al came much later into our consciousness but Sachin was Indian cricket and Indian cricket was Sachin.

FYI I have been a fan of Sachin since he hammered those runs in Harris Shield (heard of this tournament?) when I was six and just learning how to hold a bat. I saw him hit that masterful century at Perth and became a superfan. You must not know of the innings he has played at the age of your darling Kohli. Heck a Kohli cannot match him even now when age is supposed to have caught up with him.
I do not think of him as some God (that privilege is reserved for the One…but the One himself is said to have modelled his game on him). Just a mighty fine batsman who even at this age has the ability of unleashing great displays of batsmanship.
Also, if you want him to be dropped forget about age. If he were going through a bad patch, sure. Right now, he is batting like a dream.

Yay, Alex, for once, typed something that made sense. Accuracy, although is still in infancy. Whether Sachin should keep playing till WC 2011 pretty much depends on his fitness and form. However, the kind of form he has shown – almost all through his career, but significantly over last 2 years, there is not a single player on bench in the Indian squad can match up to. Sachin is the highest scorer in World Cups. He played a huge role in getting India to the finals in 2003, while 2007 was a collective team failure. No one says he is a God, and not everyone can play Dravid-esque innings like a man in a burning buildings.
What I’m saying is his innings count, his experience counts – whether him playing fluently gives others confidence about the pitch’s nature, or being at the other end while Sehwag goes berserk, urging him to be patient and play a longer innings.
You just want to be different from the masses who would rightly support Sachin any time of the day.
The day Sachin feels he cannot contribute further to the team, he will retire.

He needs to excuse himself from ODI team and say he is available if india needs him anytime during the worldcup in emergency. He can be a hero in that way. At present sachin looks like parasite that does not let go.
