The West Indies will rue the fact they couldn’t close this match out. They will be shaking their fist at the sky.
In some ways they might have come closer had the pitch been easier to score on, so then Australia would have scored a bit quicker and attacked more.
Instead they had to watch Watson, Hussey, Clarke and Haddin eat up valuble time while Chris Gayle started putting fielders in random positions on the leg side. Glorious random positions.
Shane Watson’s innings was something else. Not content with how many Australian fans bag him, he dragged the run rate below 3 runs an over until any chance of Australia winning was lost in a flurry of awkward defensive shots of Benn.
I must admit I was supporting the Windies, not because I was pissed off with the Aussies, but because cricket bet live said if the Windies won they would buy ten copies of my book for their staff.
Unfortunately they couldn’t get there.
I stayed up all night, it is now dawn, and the last time i saw the oversized product placement drink car i thought it was a giant penis.
Last test I said that it was like watching a big brother beating up his little brother. This test seemed to be more like the big brother not paying attention and the little brother jumping on his back and smacking him in the head. The big brother, eventually shrugged him off, but he got some nice whacks to the head.
Adrian Barath bowled, that was fun.
If the Windies can take this form into the next match, the Team Nash will have plenty to cheer for.
The match is at the Waca, and Australia haven’t played well at the Waca in quite some time.
What I want to know is whether Team Nash will travel to the Waca.
I might go to sleep now.
Some of this post made sense, I am sure.

Was hoping for a better final day, good concentration from the Aussies.

ritz has got to go.
you can’t have a spinner who’s stock ball is the straight one, ie, a nude ball.
disco bickie mcgain or craze has to come into the side.
Benn din’t get a wicket either, on the last day.
Flat adelaide pitch, comes in for high praise because the match went into the 5th day with a result possible – bollocks!
I want to see krejza Doosra in real game. If aussies are smart they should pick krejza over hauritz.
He can spin on glass surface.
Jogesh, Benn didn’t get a wicket, but don’t ask me to explain that, he was untouchable for most of his spell. Was far from a flat pitch for the last two days, only Chris Gayle could score on it. Look at Shane Watson’s run rate.
Watson might have additionally been afraid to go out for a low score… Benn had 10 maidens. Haven’t seen it yet but maybe they also feared him like the devil fears the holy water, after these 5 wickets… I thought they scored ok off Roach at least judging from the bits I saw.
dasw, the Aussies are scared these days, much as I find it depressing to write. With their recent history of poor quality bowling mixed with regular batting collapses, it is understandable.
Look at Punter and Hussey in the middle order, neither of them are in good nick. Hussey still looks like he is facing judgement day, not going out to bat and so the rest of the team, can be very shaky at times.
They are not that good anymore.
Jrod,
Ok, i dint see, it, just folllowed the commentary on cricinfo. So do you feel it was justified not trying for a win at all, and risking being bundled out anyway? Sure, they are 1 up, but this is the fearsome Windies we are talking about, and this isn’t the Aussie way we’ve come to admire and hate at all – they would, in fact, turn draws into wins till even 3 years ago.
Jogesh, I think they were trying for a win, Katich and Ponting didn’t go down bunting. Every batsman up until North came in and tried to get the scoring rate up, but it never lasted. The last chance they had was going to be launching an attack after tea, and instead they lost 2 quick wickets and were never going to go for it 5 down with that many to chase. Credit has to go to the Windies though. Benn was impossible to score off. Rampaul and Bravo kept the ball moving enough to cause problems. And Gayle’s fields were well suited to the pitch. There is a reason teams struggle to chase at Adelaide.
This match coming after the excellent Pakistan – NZ matches and God’s own match means that these last two months have been awesome for Test cricket. Fuck you T20. The real thing is much more entertaining.
Bravo and Gayle really kicked it up a notch – if Sarwan and Chanders get going, Australia are gonna have a much tougher time.

That inverse 5-man slip cordon, in front of the wicket after tea was dead cool.

Aussie will win next test. bring krejza. That is it. i do not know why aussie need marcus north and hussey..may be hussey should open.
Also aussie need 5 bowlers to get 20 wickets as their bowling is going bad and bad…
Bring krejza , aussie will win. After that who cares. I just want to see Krejza doosra in real game.
Ritz yet again choked on a pitch that suited him – a recurring them throughout his career starting from his debut test.
Krejza is some way from playing, though. Maybe Sydney.
Interesting to see how the fast bowlers pull up, with the Siddle and Hilfie injuries. McKay is some chance. Oh Dirty Dirk, why are you injured at a time like this?
Alternatively, if Siddle and Hilfie are both fit – does Ritz get dropped?
Hilditch also needs to pull out the shotgun, put the screen up in front of Hussey and do what needs to be done – it’s the only humane thing to do. The lack of any obvious replacement means that it won’t happen (or maybe a WACA retirement annoucement??????)
So, next week on the traditional test match commencement day of a Wednesday, I’m looking forward to sitting on plastic chairs surrounded by concrete directly in the sun on a 38degree day drinking shit beer at the WACA whilst wistfully thinking wouldn’t it be far nicer sitting at a ground like the University Ground in Dunedin watching test cricket.
Hewy,
The atmosphere at the University Oval in Dunedin a couple of Saturdays ago was quite special. When the crowd is close even 3000 drunk people can create a bit of feeling.

Nash is a gritty little bastard isn’t he? Not good enough to play for QLD, but every bit a test batsman…
QLD must be kicking themselves now.
