I didn’t consciously ignore the SL V India test match.
There were times i watched it live, and others i followed via replays.
But every time I went to write something down I dozed off.
Batting is great, but when you are watching batsmen take on beaten men who know their best chance of taking wickets is taking a crowbar to the batsmen, what is the point.
That is why i ignored it.
I don’t blame the batsmen who cashed in, but why would i want to watch a glorified net?

I BEAT BY BOWLING. i still do not know how to bat. X – key just defends. Not good instruction
24 wickets? You really did ignore this match. Which is a shame as it was an absorbing contest between bat and boundary rope. One for the annals and one which should put the doubters of Tendulkar’s ability to save a match beyond doubt.
oh well first game is a freebie , lost the second game. can’t bat , can’t bowl. statue.
You should watch icky’s monumental 242 against the greater-than-mcgrath aggykar and other assorted indian nincompoop bowlers. That’s the perfect antidote to this.
The following banners briefly appeared on the BCCI website yesterday:
“Fuck Test Cricket”
“Fuck you Ponting, trying to catch our Sachin”
“Fuck all bowlers who want to bowl more than 4 overs”
“Fuck you Modi” (Narendra)
[This one is mine - after all, it was Ahmedabad, the pogrom capital of india]
“Fuck you Modi” (Lalit)
[Ok, him too]
21 wickets actually.
It was like a zombie test. Played on a corpse of a track, and slanted so that only dead people could prosper.
Normally I’d be happy that a Don record should go, but this was a hollow victory.
Roads like that do more damage to test cricket than even Modi could hope for in his wildest slut-filled dreams.
Leg Break´s last blog ..The More you Practice
i am just pissed tendulkar missed out on a triple. that road was good for another week.
LB, i knew that the minute i went to bed, but i refused to get up to edit a post.
BCCI are cricket fuckers.Theres no need of laying such pitches wich are doctored to batting like that.No wonder batsmen like tendulka keep scoring runs relentlessly on them.Such overrated bustard this tendulkar is
Tough being a curator in India. You prepare a pitch that assists seamer? India collapses and BCCI spits on you – not to mention sulking Dhonis not slipping you the mandatory envelope with dough at the end of the match.
You prepare a pitch that assists spinners – ICC comes calling because pansies in some countries just cannot bat when it assists spin. ICC, which is so afraid of BCCI apparently, issues showcauses and bans Indian venues. As Homer observed many times, a 9 session match in INdia causes apoplexy in ICC and a venue is banned while a 7 session match in Headingley is advertisement for great cricket. Should we really believe that Asian nations are controlling ICC?
So, you go the whole hog and create a road. Batsmen happy but sulking non-bowlers like Harbhajan make snide remarks. Bhajan bowled darts at the leg stump through and through and then blames the pitch for killing test cricket. Huh?
I tell you, curators in India better and go jump in the Arabian Sea. Or Bay of Bengal, whichever is nearby.
Raj, this isn’t an Indian issue. This is a world cricket issue, if it were just Indian pitchs that were flat who cares, but it is everywhere.
That’s fine jrod but what does this guy in india do. Atleast elsewhere if you prepae a seaming wicket, you may end up with less censure. Here, all the options are blocked for the poor curator. I think he should go ahead with a spinning pitch and pocket a bonus from dhoni but what if the icc bans the venue for assisting spin, and the home association dismisses him from his job?
He prepares a wicket that if you bowl well you can earn 40 wickets. It doesn’t have to seam sideways, or spin uncontrollably, just get harder to bat on towards the end and perhaps (if we are lucky) a result. All he needs to do is prepare a proper test pitch, if it breaks up in 2 days and Michael Clarke takes wickets he has gone too far.
Jrod, did you know that kanpur eceived a showcause from icc for a match that went into 5th day? One team scored 350+. Yet icc gave a warning. Why? Because the other team couldn’t play spin for nuts. So there it is. Even if a normal pitch ends up in a 5th day result, icc will theaten to ban your venue if incompetent players from some country can’t play spin.
Avtually, people just don’t react if this fact about icc and its blatant bias against spin is bought up. People keep bringing up mumbai 2004 because that suits the stereotype and “villlainous bcci” narrative.
Were you aware of this before? Now tell me – if you were a curator, wouldn’t you be afraid. Because if there is a result, and by chance some spin, icc will ban you even if india scored 400?and the match went to 5th day as well
The ECB told off Cardiff because a ball spun too much in a domestic one dayer. People are idiots Raj, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try make a good pitch. Regardless of what country you are in.
I really think India should make seaming wicket against srilankans to nullify srilankan spin threat. India do not have spinners anyway. Bhajji is finished when kumble retired. Misra hand is so small ball comes out before he bowls. hahaha. Ojha is a vanilla bowler. Nothing special.
Bhajji may be good against aussies not against srilanka.
India won’t win this series , may lose it if wickets are spin friendly.
Make seaming wicket bring sreesanth and hope he do go nutz and do monkey dance on the middle of pitch. whole of kerala will hate him and throw him in arabian see if he do that.
“hope he do not go nutz and do monkey dance”
need edit function in this blog
Thats nice to say jrod but the curator’s got a job to keep. Keep in mind that the pitch had nothing to do with Harbhajan’s pathetic performance – if he bowled like that, he wouldnt have got a wicket anywhere except a minefield. Yes, even Murali struggled but atleast he tried. He showed why he is what he is with his attitude of fighting until the end. Most indian bowlers threw in the towel much early in the game. That is not the pitch’s fault. I suspect if we’d have had the same result if Australia were involved – because they keep trying and dont throw in the towel.
I d’d be sad if the criticism on pitch distracted people from the incompetence of bowlers like Harbhajan.
And I thought we once used to have timeless tests – like, sixth day and all – wonder what kind of pitches let the batsmen pile up until the sixth day. Wonder if test cricket was considered to be dying after that match. Wonder if the host board was hauled up after that match by newspapers and fans.
The last Kanpur test that drew much censure
http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/332913.html
I watched much of it, it was a great test – especially Ganguly’s batting.
One collapse by whitey and the ICC begins to bray. To SA’s credit, they said they expected it and if they were one down, they would prepare a track to suit their bowlers too:
“What was most remarkable about the South African team might not come through just by looking at these numbers. They were given a pitch that might have had other touring teams complaining bitterly. The South Africans, on the other hand, made no complaints – their captain and coach even mentioned that they wouldn’t hesitate to give the tourists a greentop if they were looking to come back in a home series – and instead went ahead and gave it their best shot. This was in stark contrast to Ricky Ponting’s team that lost in Mumbai in 2004-05. ” – Sidharth Monga
And one more thing, jrod, about giving wickets to Clarke, an Indian team is capable of giving wickets to anyone. Lance Klusenere made a stunning debut against us – and never quite lived up to that performance in tests. Even Carl Hooper has match winning spells against us. So, Clarke taking wickets against India doesnt necessarily imply a bad pitch.
I mean, he took 3 wickets in one over(2?) in Sydney remember? India is capable of such mind-numbing incompetence. We just live with it.
Also, in the same Mumbai pitch, Tendulkar and Laxman showed their skills, If we accept that a test match tests out all kinds of situations on you, maybe this Mumbai test serves as notice of Tendulkar and Laxman’s supreme skills. It just shouldnt matter 2 days or 3 days.
