Rudi: Billy, Billy, wake up Billy.

Billy: What? Yes.

Rudi: Did you see it Billy?

Billy: See what?

Rudi: The catch.

Billy: Who took a catch, was it good?

Rudi: Andrew took it, weren’t you watching?

Billy: Yes, I was.

Rudi: Was it a catch?

Billy: You said it was.

Rudi: Ok, try and follow me, did Strauss take the catch?

Billy: Yes.

Rudi: Are you sure, or should we go upstairs?

Billy looks around.

Billy: There are no stairs here Rudi.

Rudi: Right. Ok, I think it was a catch, so I am going to say it was a catch, you are going to agree with me.

Billy: Ofcourse Rudi.

Rudi: This is my hundredth test, and I say it was a catch.

Billy: Yes Rudi.

Rudi: Ricky, that is out.

Ricky: Aren’t you going to refer it?

Rudi: 100 tests, remember.

Ricky: Listen here you pile of cocksweat, you referred that one yesterday how about some fucking consistency for fucks sake.

Rudi: Ricky, please, this is my 100th test, show some respect.

Ricky: Lick my ass you fucken waste of sperm.

what about taking the fielders word, ricky

    the world is really round.

  3. patgarrett  •  Jul 19, 2009 @12:43

    Damn right. Shocking decision.

  4. patgarrett  •  Jul 19, 2009 @12:44

    @ rahul

Taking the fielder’s word only works when the fielder isn’t a cheat.

  5. Steve  •  Jul 19, 2009 @12:45

    It’s a ECB conspiracy.

Remember – 2005, 2nd Test, Billy gave Kasper out, when he had his hand off the bat. We lost the Ashes.

Who is this rahul? Bugger off.

  6. richie_141  •  Jul 19, 2009 @12:49

You only have to take the fielder’s word for it if they’re Australian and/or telling the truth. You never have to take the word of a saffa. I’m sure that’s what it says in the Laws of the game.

The boot is on the other foot this time. This is Sydney reversed.

  8. raj  •  Jul 19, 2009 @13:16

Well said dhananjy. C’mon guys, whine away. Don’t blame me for smirking.

  9. ONS  •  Jul 19, 2009 @13:31

Now I suppose Ricky would shout himself hoarse at the press conference, about the spirit of cricket and all. No use Ricky. Strike claiming bump balls off that list.

And now, Aussie fans will feel how Indian fans felt like in Sydney 2008. Cheated. Life has come a full circle for you guys. Of course in both cases, its the fielder’s and the umpire’s fault. Not the umpire’s alone.

  10. Lou  •  Jul 19, 2009 @13:57

It just gets better, now the bowler I consider to be useless has bowled Punter and nearly had Clarke who I consider to be semi-useless in a crisis and he will prove it soon I am sure.

My, this series is fun, what with Mitch deciding to take a brain holiday and the batsmen not knowing that balls can be hit along the ground.

  11. Lou  •  Jul 19, 2009 @13:58

They should send MItchell Johnson out next. Make him remember he is a bloody cricketer.

  12. Lou  •  Jul 19, 2009 @14:54

It is getting kind of amusing now. The English team has only taken one wicket but there is four down!

    Anybody else find it funny?

    Or is it just me?

  13. Mahendra  •  Jul 19, 2009 @15:04

Fucking hilarious… Aussies getting what they deserve…

Chirp it up you miserable whining bitches (Indians) that is. Yeah the Aussies have had some bad calls but it’ll be a cold day in hell when we threaten to pull out of the tour and act like fucking children like you did in Sydney.

  16. Samir Chopra  •  Jul 19, 2009 @16:04

2nd: Darn right. The throwing the toys out of the pram will only take place in the comments sections of various blogs.

  17. rootofall3vil  •  Jul 19, 2009 @16:13

My mind is flooded with so many phrases i want to say – “boot in the other foot” – “Taste of their own medicine” – Deja Vu! at the end of the day, Aussies will sit in the dressing room and at least one of them will think “Now i know how it feels to be on the other side at Sydney in 2008″. Having said that, i hope they do report the poor umpiring at the end of the day. This kind of umpiring takes credit away from the deserving team.

  18. Sunny  •  Jul 19, 2009 @16:45

i remember during the sydney test, aussies kept saying that decisions should be made on-field and players should make the call. it didn’t matter that they couldn’t themselves be trusted. now when the situation has reversed, note the moral outrage and call for reviews. welcome back to the pack.

  20. Mahendra Shikaripur  •  Jul 19, 2009 @17:12

don’t want this to descend into a slanging match on your blog but truth be told this feels so good … Ponting is a disgrace.. he really is..

and the less said about the aussie twerps on here the better.

  21. Cricket Tragic  •  Jul 19, 2009 @17:48

OK, time for a neutral voice from SL!

Shit happens all the time, one team gets a slur of decisions against them, only to see in the next test that they are super lucky!

A lot of us Lankans felt hard done by when one of the umps in the first test gave Yousuf not out when it was plumb LBW, but it balanced off when the nightwatchman Herath was given not out for a fairly easy LBW decision, which pretty much evened it up.

Basically, what I just hate about Ricky is that he talks about how we should trust the decision of the fielder when he clearly isn’t ready to do so.

So, if you aren’t willing to do what you want others to do, then do you actually expect them to do it?

Better if he could follow it himself…perhaps the other captains might think of giving the whole idea a shot!

  22. patgarrett  •  Jul 19, 2009 @20:10

    @ Cricket Tragic

I can hardly how why Punter can be criticized for not “trusting the decision of the fielder” when we have incidents like today’s. The whole point of this is that fielders can’t be trusted, so use the technology.

  23. Apples  •  Jul 20, 2009 @00:43

Samir Chopra, that is Gold. Spot on.

We have to take the word of the fieldsman who takes the “catch”. If they take it on the bounce or in front of the stumps, i.e. cheat, so be it. They will have to wear that lable. We’ve all caught jack balls and you know it when you have

Until they get something like that pitch cam thingy that will clearly and conclusively show what is where, technology should not come into it.

However, when it comes to no balls, ………………..

  24. NJ  •  Jul 20, 2009 @01:13

Schadenfreude, chaps. It’s natural to want someone (Ricky Ponting) to be punished because of general (and deserved) dislike, but that doesn’t mean that it’s right. Unless Australia win this test, there’s always going to be some belief that the umpires have negatively affected the outcome of the match. Sure, it happens all the time in cricket, but that doesn’t mean it should stay that way.

  25. Cricket Tragic  •  Jul 20, 2009 @02:10

    @patgarret

I’m not criticizing Punter for not taking the word of the fieldsman….

Even I wouldn’t do that, even if my whole life depended on it..

However, wt bugs me the most about Punter is the fact that, when Australia is fielding, he expects the opposition batsmen to take his word for it….does sound ‘hippocritical’ doesn’t it?

  26. Captain Cranky  •  Jul 20, 2009 @02:34

The real test here, gents, will be if Australia throws a massive tantrum, threatens to pull out of the series unless the umpire is replaced – and get their way. THEN the shoe will be on the other foot.

  27. Matt  •  Jul 20, 2009 @08:53

To those of you bagging the Ricky hard for being hypocrites- all the Aussies seem to want is consistency. I don’t believe Strauss was cheating and I have no problem with him appealing hard – it’s a test match, he probably caught it, the right decision was probably made – you beauy! But if you refer the Hairitz catch then Strauss’s which looked more marginal should also have been referred – alternately refer neither and give both out -whatever…
Indian supporters, lotta haters of Ponting here – lots of couching him as a hypocrite – but I think he’s just excercising the commonsense some of you seem to lack… If both teams agree to taking the fielders word – fine, if they don’t fine- if Hauritz’s catch is referred fine- but when Stauss’s isn’t and Ricky is a bit cranky- what an asshole. Pardon? At the risk of being petty, 1+1 = 2, not Ricky trussing Ishant Sharma to the railroad track while sodomising Sachins pet chiuhaha.

  28. raj  •  Jul 20, 2009 @15:55

Matt, cry away, friend. Whine away. More, please!

  29. Jamie64  •  Jul 20, 2009 @23:22

I notive that Australia hasn’t threatened to pull out of the tour like a bhunch a spoilt little private school brats.

  30. 2nd Slip  •  Jul 20, 2009 @23:42

Yeah there was no “there were two teams out there but only one was playing cricket” toy out of pram chucking tantrum crap like we had from that Anus Kumble and his team of tantrum throwing twats.
