Yes I just love England’s superior bowlers. As scribes numberless have pointed out, Jimmy and Broadband are certainly prettier than anything Aussie can field (except maybe Nate Bracken). And Freddie’s got that mystique, that aura, that mana, that presence. And hell they can all bowl 90mph, so D Fletcher would be happy. Monty’s a proven crowd-pleaser. And it does seem vital to have someone who can handle the media – Swanny’s interview was just brilliant, thanks JRod.
I don’t want to get hung up on stats, but I just took a peak at some bowlers’ strike rates. There’s a geezer called Hogarth or Hoggit or something who actually has a better test strike rate than any of the current England bowlers. Unlike Jimmy, Broadband and co he is rumored to have actually got quality players out on flat tracks too, and could bowl all day without “feeling a bit faint”. Only problem was he couldn’t bowl 90mph, he didn’t “bowl a heavy ball”, and whats more he’d “lost his nip”.
Hats off to Lily Allen, chair of England selectors.
