“A Fuck-You Hundred.” Brilliant. And way to succinctly address what England need the ball to perform tomorrow “Magic Tricks.” Short and sweet.
Looking good after Hughes then attrition, the kind of attrition England seemed incapable against even the Windies.

I guess the argument for nightwatchmen coming out to protect the middle order instead of openers is that you want to minimise the damage of losing the wicket – of course you don’t want to lose the opener in the first place, but you don’t want to compound the problem by losing your number three as well. Professional batsmen should be able to withstand the pressure like you say, but if they’re a nervous starter (like Ponting or Pieterson for example) you might want to avoid giving them the double whammy of it being late in the day so they can’t do anything useful, coupled with a bowling attack who might have their tails up. Middle-order batsmen having testicles doesn’t do your team much good if you finish the day two specialist batsmen down. All arguments you’ve probably heard before of course – and yes, there’s no question that sending Anderson in ahead of Swann was pretty stupid. Tail-enders protecting tail-enders (which obviously isn’t quite right, but still) doesn’t make much sense!

Loving the podcasts by the way – the sweariness is particularly amusing.

Another top podcast, I’ve been telling heaps of people about it so hopefully will get some new balls fans out of them.

The only way to get the krab out is with a spade. Classic.

I don’t mind the night watchman, without them Dizzy would never have racked up a doubleton..

Mate, I couldn’t agree with you more about bloody nightwatchmen! Lunacy!
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched a night watchman come to the crease, get out almost immediately, then the batsman who should have come out in the first place bats through to stumps!! A complete waste!
Cricket, like most sports, is about percentages. You always do the thing with the greatest percentage chance of success, thereby giving yourself the greatest chance to succeed. So how the hell does anybody think that a nightwatchman, who’s bating skills are inferior to the batsman he’s protecting, supposed to have a greater chance than the protected batsman of surviving at the crease??? Completely nuts!!
