I was lured to Lord’s by Ladbrokes to talk about the ashes (memo to all betting agencies instead of pretending you are helping me, offer me bacon rolls).
There was a panel discussion there with everyone’s favourite stand up comedian Charles Colville, the best bloke ever Alec Stewart, NSWale’s own Graham Thorpe and Thommo. He of the miss pronounced McGrath.
Thorpe and Colville could have been replaced with mannequins, but Thommo was in great form.
He bagged Punter with furious gusto, even if he got several facts about his captaincy career wrong (sorry Thommo but he captained Tasmania before he captained Australia, and his first series as captain wasn’t the 2005 ashes).
My favourite bit was when he said of Ponting “I thought Ricky was crap when he was first captain in 2004 and nothing much has improved since then. I’m not the only one who thinks that …everyone at home thinks he’s shit at the captaincy.”
From there Thommo moved on to Hauritz, poor Nathan. He said that Katich, Clarke, and North are all better bowlers than him.
He also swore and told old stories I have heard a bunch of times.
I mentioned the bacon rolls, good.
It was also interesting to see the odds that Ladbrokes had up, I am thinking of having a dabble on Peter Siddle for most wickets at 8-1.
Surely a better bet than the 20-1 being offered for Shane Watson to top the batting tables, that is criminally under the odds.

I am building a perfect cricket robot which will be used by England to win the Ashes for my summer project. The robot can hit balls coming at it at 100 mph and can track spinning balls. It uses motion sensors and 360 degrees vision to capture fielder positions to hit the ball achieving maximum accuracy and damage with minimum risk. we will package it and call it Awesom-O
20-1? There will be 22 blokes playing in the first Test and I am presuming that Wa(ffer)tson will not be one of them. Are you sure that was not 20-1 that he plays and gets thru 5 days play plus warm ups and breakfast unscathed? Still probably way under!!!
