Shane Watson and Brett Lee have been picked for the twenty20 thingy for Australia. Neither of them has bowled a ball in their comebacks. Which sounds riskier than it is, Watson might have got picked as a batsman anyway.
He once got picked as an orange cutter when squad positions were tight, they always fit him.
Lee’s back up would appear to be Tait, as there must be a reason Tait wasn’t allowed to play in the IPL.
Dirty Dirk Nannes would be the perfect back up, but he seems to have pissed Andrew Hilditch off:
“I have not really thought too much about (Nannes’ move to Holland), to be honest”.
That my friend is the selectors version of a diss.
The biggest surprise was in the batting, Callum Ferguson’s omission.
He has been abusing the white balls since he made it to the big time, but Michael Hussey’s golden arm chair ride continues unabated.
When Hilditch was finished with Nannes, he stood up for Hussey, while (you aint gonna fucking believe this) admitting his mistake:
“I think Michael was really tired towards the end of the South African series, in retrospect we should have got him a spell earlier on in the season,”
Ofcourse he completely overlooked Hussey’s bad form for the previous 12 months, but this is the man that once said that had he played Jason Krejza one week earlier, he would not have been ready, so this was a baby step in the right direction.
The squad isn’t bad, but it does seem to lack a bit of chunky hitting in the middle order, and a legitimate strike bowler to go with Johnson.
No idea why they took Hauritz, good luck charm?
Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, David Warner, Shane Watson

Hilditch is taking the long term view, he said, which is why you choose Lee and Symonds, of course, and not Ferguson. It’s not about those in form NOW, but about those who were once upon a time in form and, one perfect day, might be again!
As for Hussey, what about Hussey – the other non-performing one? Well, he’s in to cover for Twatto’s shit fielding and upcoming hamstring injury after bowling two overs – two players to fill one role! Or one player for the price of two! which ever way you want to see it.
The selectors continue to astonish us.
Tait is a strange decision – they pull a fine print out of the contract and tell him he can’t play in the IPL because they need him for the T20WC, costing him a heap of dough, then they don’t pick him. On top of that, they may well cut his contract in the next week anyway (they’ve got to cut 10 contracted players). So the Wild Thing may be out of pocket a lazy mil.
David Hussey has a photograph of James Sutherland with a goat. He also lets Mike borrow it. There can be no other explanation.
Jason Krezja was the best performing spinner in T20 domestic last season. Nathan Hauritz was not.
That comment by Hiditch about Nannes really irritated me. Very farken passive aggressive if you ask me. India should romp this one in.
I apologise for an earlier comment that Australia needs to replace Punter as captain to grt back to their winning ways. Actually, they need to replace the selectors. (Also may be give Punter a greater say in selection?).
Further, does “long term view” mean “long in the tooth?”. (Dirk may be 32, but he seems to be younger than Tait. No mental and physical breakdowns).
This is really sad. Aussie selectors behaving like the sub-continental selectors of an earlier era. Well, the only hope is Ricky Ponting somehow getting a flash or inspiration and leading Australia to victory with his tactical acumen, and inspiration of his team mates with motivating speeches, and stirring performances setting example in the field. I wouldnt rule that out
Is this the best Australia can offer to the World T20? I mean, apart from david warner and david hussey, I don’t see a genuine biffer of the ball, unless Symmo discovers his mojo just in time.If they are lukcy, they will barely make it to the semis.
To the David Hussey haters, His last 2020 innings for Australia wasn’t bad, from memory.
Hilditch isn’t going to say anything that might suggest that they have made a mistake in not selecting Nannes so clearly his stupid comment was a sad “stop asking me about Nannes” retort.
Nannes was asked to play by Holland. As he clearly wasn’t doing anything else at the time(!) whats he gonna say?. Its a shame if the media beat it up into a ” Nannes says ‘fuck you I’ll play for them’” scenario.
That said…………..wouldn’t it be great if this story ends up as a “fuck you, you should have picked me” scenario!! Actions speak louder than words.
It’ll be interesting to see exactly how many T20 games each of the final Aussie lineup have actually played when you think about the massive number of games played by those first class cricketers not deemed good enough to play, have clocked up.
number1, there was a little ‘fuck you i’ll play for them in Dirk’s comments, trust me”.
