Most of us still don’t rate 2020 cricket very highly.

We see the players talking to the commentators as they come in.

The weird outfits and golden helmets.

And we know that real cricket takes 5 days.

What of the players, we know the Australians still don’t take it that seriously.

Other countries certainly do.

Certain players definitely do.

MS Dhoni has the test captaincy because of it.

Shane Watson has played test cricket because of it.

And Daniel Vettori said he was devastated after losing to Australia last night.

Has 2020 turned?

Is it now more than just entertainment and quick cash, Vettori thinks so.

You don’t get devastated over a game of cricket that you don’t take seriously.

Dirty Dirk Nannes just told me that it is his favourite form of cricket.

David Warner, Graham Napier and Yusuth Pathan would be all but unknown men without it.

I wonder how much longer players will be interviewed on the ground while they play.

There is too much money and pride at stake to think of it as a muck about anymore.

None of this explains why Australia still rest 50% of their best team everytime they play it.

    They were 2-0 up,
Vettori must have glimpsed the chance of winning the ODI series,
but it ended in a 2-2, the rain denying a chance of a result in the final match
and the trophy stays with Aus.

a victory in the 20-20 would have salvaged for him / his team some pride
to lose by 1 run – any one will be gutted.

    JRod,
I feel it was more a reaction to the circumstances
I do not think it puts any more value to the “Only”T20 internationals (maybe for the newcomers) that gets added to the tour fixtures like an after thought.

I know all that Chinaman, but he was more upset yesterday than he was after the loss in the adelaide test. I understand circumstances, but unless it hurt him to lose that match, he wouldn’t have got angry, so the match had to mean something to him.

He shouldn’t have spent so much time chatting to the C9 commentators then.

    Who is Graham Napier?

  5. jrod  •  Feb 16, 2009 @01:12

Slogged a huge score for Essex last year, bowls a bit, looks like he might have a career as a 2020 player. Is currently in Wellington.

    http://www.grahamnapier.com/about.htm

He has his own website, and has never played international cricket.

Sorry, was taking the piss out of English cricket

  7. Sid  •  Feb 16, 2009 @04:50

yeaa! he’s [Graham Napier] even made it to the Mumbai Indians squad ! True, some ppl r born to play jus this format !! :)

  8. Leg Break  •  Feb 16, 2009 @05:55

He was quoted in the paper in Wellington a few weeks back saying that Elton John sent him a txt after his 160 (?) for Essex last year.

Now why would you admit that?

Anyway, when he comes out to bat the PA system plays Rocket Man

    Not sure if he’s got a girl-friend.

Did i see some empty seats at the SCG? The first international T20 match that comes to my mind which did not have a sell out crowd. Are people already getting bored of the format? Is this recession?

  10. Brad  •  Feb 16, 2009 @07:01

Leg break – is that a true story?
If so, why would Elton have G. Napier’s mobile phone number?
Your comment posses far more questions that it answers.

also, i read somewhere some kiwi questioning the legality of Voges’ catch. Rule 32? states that you must be in the field of play for the entire catching process… or something to that affect. Not that the aussies give a flying fuck about rules.

  11. Leg Break  •  Feb 16, 2009 @07:04

    Brad,

When I next see Napier at the pub I’ll ask how Reggie got his number.

    Is it on his site?

Voges catch should’ve been made illegal purely due to the “Ohh ohh” commentary going on at the time.

  12. Brad  •  Feb 16, 2009 @07:26

no need to ask him at the pub… his NZ mobile is on his interweb site: 027rocketman

  13. Dave  •  Feb 16, 2009 @11:17

Brad, the law only states that the fielder must not have any part of his body grounded outside the boundary while he’s in contact with the ball.

Poopsie, too subtle for me, but worth reading his about me section anyway, funny stuff.

Brad & LB, If Graham Napier is gay, that would suck, as it would make him more interesting. We could ask Suave though, don’t all Essex boys know each other.

Sid, has he been signed yet, i thought they were still negotiating.

  15. Leg Break  •  Feb 16, 2009 @19:04

    Jrod,

You don’t think getting txts from Elton and being called Rocket Man isn’t interesting enough?

  16. jrod  •  Feb 16, 2009 @20:58

LB, no, everyone gets texts from Elton, the dude is a minor celbnrity whore. He just offered his house to a big brother racist, he loves that shit.
